Comprehensive Recovery

At Guardian Recovery, we are dedicated to providing each and every one of our clients with a level of individualized clinical care that is truly unmatched. As part of our comprehensive continuum of therapeutic addiction recovery, we offer individual therapy on a regular basis. During individual therapy, the client works closely with one of our licensed and compassionate therapists in hour-long one-on-one therapy sessions, which are geared towards providing clients with a deeper understanding of the disease model of addiction, increasing self-awareness and knowledge of their own addictive disorders, and working through any additional emotional issues. We believe that therapy should be a collaborative process. We work hard to foster a safe and supportive environment in which the therapist and the client can work together to uncover all underlying factors and work through them effectively, without fear of judgement.

Clients are given the opportunity to participate in at least one individual therapy session every week while engaged in both the medical detox and residential portion of our program. The individual therapy session will allow for a level of personalized care that might not always be afforded during daily group therapy sessions. We structure individual therapy sessions to meet the unique needs and requirement of each client using a set of proven therapeutic modalities, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Relapse Prevention Training
  • The Treatment of Dual Diagnosis Disorders
  • Trauma Resolution Therapy

Individual therapy is a fundamental part of the overall addiction recovery process. Every effective program of recovery will incorporate a wide variety of proven therapeutic modalities.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, more commonly referred to as CBT, is one of the most widely utilized therapeutic treatment modalities in the realm of substance abuse treatment. CBT is used to treat a wide range of behavioral health issues through identifying negative thought patterns and behavioral patterns. The therapist and the client will work together to uncover self-destructive patterns and come up with viable alternatives and healthy coping mechanisms. In many instances, unhealthy thought patterns lead to unfavorable behaviors especially when it comes to chemical substance abuse. The main goal of CBT is to rearrange the way that individuals think and behave while instilling valuable coping and life skills that will last long-term.

CBT aims towards equipping clients with all of the tools they need to stay sober long-term. This specific therapeutic modality is generally very effective in helping end negative thought cycles and ultimately greatly reducing the risk of relapse. CBT addresses a number of potential issues, including (but not limited to):

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Obsessive thoughts
  • Compulsive behaviors
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Unresolved trauma
  • Anger-related issues

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most effective when it is combined with other therapeutic methods. For this reason, we combines a number of proven methodologies in order to provide the most comprehensive clinical care available.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy also known as DBT is often used in conjunction with CBT. DBT is another form of cognitive behavioral therapy that helps clients learn to effectively work through uncomfortable feelings and emotions while managing stress and gaining a deep level of personal insight. DBT is especially beneficial for individuals who are simultaneously struggling with a dal diagnosis disorder like depression, anxiety or borderline personality disorder. The main goal of DBT is to help clients gain healthy interpersonal skills while better understanding themselves and why they operate the way they do, while improving self-acceptance and feelings of self-worth. Of course, in an addiction treatment setting, DBT is also geared towards helping clients effectively work through drug and alcohol cravings and avoid relapse in order to maintain long-term sobriety.

Mindfulness exercises make up the foundation of DBT, and they are geared towards helping clients stay present in the current moment. We teach our clients a wide range of mindfulness exercises, instructing them on how to stay founded by paying attention to their breath, their current environment and the emotions they are experiencing as they arise. These exercises are extremely beneficial in teaching clients to meet themselves where they are without judgement, gain emotional and mental balance and strength and manage self-destructive behaviors.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing, or MI, is a therapeutic methodology geared towards helping clients make positive decisions for themselves that will impact their own lives in healthy and productive ways. We believe that it is extremely important that clients completely change the way they think that when they graduate from our addiction treatment program, they want to stay sober and thoroughly understand the benefits of doing so. Motivational Interviewing ignites an inherent desire to take control and make positive changes. We teach clients that they already have all of the tools they need to stay sober long-term it is simply a matter of knowing how to effectively use them.

Worried About the Cost of Care?

See if your insurance plan covers your therapy. Build a path toward lasting emotional wellness.

We utilize MI to teach clients that it is essentially up to them to stay sober and achieve all of their personal goals. In active addiction, many individuals fall back on blame they blame others for their substance abuse disorders, for their current circumstances and for all of the issues they face in life. We teach clients that things simply happen, and that it is up to them to effectively handle every situation as it arises (with support as needed, of course).

Relapse Prevention Training

The main goal of every therapeutic addiction treatment program is to teach clients how to avoid relapse. We prioritize Relapse Prevention Training and incorporate it into every single individualized treatment program. Our licensed therapists teach clients to identify their personal relapse triggers and consequently work through any uncomfortable emotions that might arise. Our Relapse Prevention Training program helps clients address all underlying issues, and teaches clients to face problems and unfavorable circumstances head-on in a real-life setting. The real work begins once inpatient treatment ends, and we prepare each and every one of our clients for this inevitable reality.

Dual Diagnosis Disorders and Unresolved Trauma

Dual diagnosis disorders and unresolved trauma are extremely common among men and women who suffer from substance dependency. All of the therapeutic modalities we employ take a look at issues from a trauma-informed perspective, and effectively deal with any dual diagnosis mental health disorders that might be present. Some common dual diagnosis disorders include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and a wide range of behavioral and personality disorders. While therapy can be effective in treating these conditions, we have licensed psychiatrists on staff to conduct in-depth mental health assessments and provide antipsychotic medication whenever necessary. We believe that a comprehensive approach is always the most effective.
